J.Crew Fall 2012

Mustard with a pop of purple and stripes — nice.

J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons is back to her same old tricks that brought the brand fame in the first place. Tuesday’s Fall 2012 J.Crew show proved itself with an overly booked house and many faithful fans coming out to support Lyons’ signature style.  J.Crew is brand that often attracts college students’ attention and even offers discounts if a student I.D. is presented at check out.

Statement pants are here to stay.

Statement pants continue to be one of J.Crew’s most fought over trends.  A pair of unexpectedly colorful pants or animal printed cropped jeans is enough to spice up any old shirt. Plus they are a great starting point for fashionistas who aren’t ready to leave their comfort zones just yet.

Pretty in pink and some surprise fun.

If the statement pants weren’t enough, Lyons kept the fun going with surprise bursts of color such as this sea green clutch with a predominately pink outfit. The whole show was about featuring clothes the public would feel comfortable wearing while still keeping them on their toes. Lyons preppy-eclectic style will definitely be featured in a majority of returning college students’ closets.

Nicole Miller – New York Fashion Week Fall 2012

Floral prints for fall.

Nicole Miller said the starting point for her Fall 2012 line, which made its debut Friday, was a picture of Jimi Hendrix. From there Miller ran with a line full of vintage inspiration and a couple modern twists.  This show had a special nineties aura to it with a thrift shop trend.

Suede vest with a floppy hat.

Vests, bell-bottoms, suede, velvet, a-line minis and patchwork leather were all fair game at the show. The show really revealed a fresh take on fall fashion by featuring more colors than usual and Miller’s usual fetish for eccentric bold patterns.

Tassels and glasses.

While Miller used her signature bright colors to liven up her vintage outfits. She also created several LBDs to add to any wardrobe for anything from a business meeting to a night on the town. She was especially drawn to fun fabriques such a lace overlays to create unique silhouettes on all of the models.

Cases on Cases on Cases

Clearly we wouldn’t be caught dead on campus without our laptops, cell phones and iPads but why should we be caught with them looking drab? Almost every popular designer – Marc Jacobs, Alice + Olivia – and store is featuring various cases to brighten up your technology. What could be a better way to drive away those Monday blues?

simple & chic.
Kate Spade has tons of cases, including this chic black & white case.

Cushion your all too important laptop with some designer envy such as this black white Kate Spade.  While yes your laptop will take on a whole new fabulous persona, it will also last way longer with any kind of protective case to hall back and forth every day.

Floral fun.
Lilly is making class extra cute with its signature floral patterns.

The same goes for your iPad. Any regular nerd can whip out an iPad but it’s exceedingly impressive when that kid happens to be sporting one of spring’s favorite designers Lilly Pulitzer. The bright floral or nautical cases currently on the market are a great excuse to spend that textbook cash you forgot about.

Last but certainly not least, lets not forget our best friend…our phone.  Different cases fit different life styles. For instance this Michael Kors case has slots for credit cards and cash for someone on the go. You can also find cases designed for gym use or extra durability.  Plus since EVERYONE is cellular you have endless options from $10 dollars to $1,000.

Exotic and Bold
Michael Kors promises to turn heads with something a little more exotic to tote your phone in.

The Victoria Secret Fashion Show Shines All Night Long!

Alessandra Ambrosio spreads her oh-so-cultural wings!

It’s that time of year again! On November 29th the Angels were on the prowl yet again for CBS’s annual Victoria Secret Fashion Show.

The world-renowned show is famous for its fabulously embellished lingerie, sought after super models and headliner artists that always promise a jaw-dropping show.

“Not gonna lie, the Victoria Secret Fashion Show is like a mini holiday right in between Thanksgiving and Christmas,” said Colleen Ciszek, freshman at UNC.

The show is unique in that it attracts audience members that range from high-end fashion designers to high school girls still sporting their training bras. For women the show highlights up and coming trends for exclusive undies. While the men enjoy the highlights of the gorgeous models.

This year’s models include Supermodel Candice Swanepoel who graced the staged with a stellar opening walk. Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes, Erin Heatherton, Lily Aldridge, Lindsey Ellingson and the rest of the angels follow her lead with fierce poses and struts.

To help keep things interesting for all the middle school boys, to accompany the victorian, under-the-sea & world cultures themes the angels also had a round of walks dressed as heroines from our favorite childhood comics and cartoons.

The runway look that caught the most eyes had to be the over-the-top lingerie set embroidered with swaroksi elements, iconic angel wings and the $2.5 million Fantasy Treasure Bra worn by Supermodel Miranda Kerr (who just had a baby…WHAT?).

Last year the show included performances from Katie Perry and Akon. This year’s artists didn’t disappoint with music from Nicki Minaj, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Maroon 5. The diverse group has been described as an “unforgettable show.”

So whether you’re an avid Victoria Secret follower or you are still in the closet about your little fetish– don’t fret. Tune into CBS to see a replay of the show or press play on your DVR because this year’s show promises to give you wings!

Models have a silly moment on the stage before the show comes to a close!

Autumn Leaves, and New Colors Please

There is nothing more relaxing than taking a load off your feet long enough to give yourself a mani and pedi.  But that’s just an additional bonus for the possible fashion statement you’ve got right at your fingertips (literally).

Whether you’re sporting sparkly polish for a night out or your go to color is a neutral pink, nail polish is a cheap and easy way to constantly make a fashion statement.

OPI’s new fall colors promise to keep you on your toes.

This autumn’s going to class colors are a step below last year’s black with softer mauves and chocolate browns.

Suzi Loves Cow Boys
Warm & Fozzie

With the leaves all changing colors, you might be looking for something a little more colorful. Find an outlet with some warm spice hues.

The “IT” Color
 Melon of Troy

But if you’re really looking to stand out, the best touch would have to be by adding a little shimmer to your nails. OPI is even switching things up with a line from Nicki Minaj.

Rainbow Connection
Spark De Triomphe

If you aren’t savvy on sparkles you can always change your nails up a little bit by having four nails on your hand one color and then have having an accent color on the remaining finger. Our cover model even sported the switch up.

So don’t pansy out and turn to your all time favorite bubble gum pink. Experiment with different shades, after all change is only a swipe of nail polish away.
