Eco-fashion for the conscious fashionista

Large tote, $275Turquoise evening bag, $120

Love these bags? I definitely did! What’s even better-they are eco-friendly. Nahui Ollin by Olga Abadi was established in 2003 for exactly that reason, to answer the need for “green” fashion. The line of hand-made purses uses an ancient Mayan technique to fold and bind recycled and defective candy wrappers into stylish wristlets, totes and messenger bags. Each bag is hand-crafted by artisans in Mexico, so no two bags are the same. This brings me to another plus about Nahui Ollin, it has brought big business to locals who are now able to support their families. Ahh, fashion you can feel good about!

Gold clutch, $88Tote, $225

Nahui Ollin has been featured in some of my favorite magazines like Lucky, Elle, and Seventeen. Check out more at

Welcome to Kaleidoscope magazine’s new blog! Kaleidoscope, the only fashion and lifestyle magazine on campus, has started this blog so readers can get their fix of fashion, beauty, local artists, health, student life, shopping and more in between our issues, which come out four times a year. (The Spring issue is on stands now, and going fast! Look for it in Davis, the UL, in front of the Union and in Carroll hall.) The blog is an extension of the magazine and is a way for us to give you more of what you want and more of YOU. That’s right. Look out for our staff on campus and Franklin Street because they’re looking for stylish students to feature on the blog and the magazine.

Up to something amazing and want people to know about it? Kaleidoscope is looking for you, too. Comment here or e-mail the staff at and let us know what you’re up to so we can spread the word. Feel free to comment on what you like…and dislike. I hope you enjoy!
