There is no denying that leather is a force to be reckoned with this season. Paring a leather item with any outfit is an easy way to give your look an edgier touch. While genuine leather is on the pricey side, there are many synthetic leather options that provide you with all the bang for fewer bucks. This trend has also been a huge hit among celebrities. A-list stars such as Beyonce´, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez and Kristen Stewart have all been seen rocking the trend. While you may be thinking that wearing tight leather pants or a tiny leather dress is a little too bold for you, there are a multitude of ways to tweak the trend to fit your personal style. Not a fan of black? No worries, there are plenty leather pieces available in this season’s hottest colors. All in all, leather is extremely versatile and should be a staple in every woman’s closet.
While leather skirts are typically seen as nighttime attire, this season feminine pleated option allows you to wear the trend day or night. If you are looking for a sexier option, pair a leather pencil skirt with a peplum top and you’ve got the perfect mix of sexy and classy.
When it comes to leather dresses there are a wide variety of options available. For the bolder fashionista, who is not afraid to show off her curves, a bodycon leather dress will be perfect. Those who are more modest may prefer a dress with leather accents.
The leather jacket is a classic piece that can easily transform and pull together any look. A fun way to wear this season’s biker jacket is to pair it with ultra feminine dresses and skirts to add contrast to your outfit
Fendi’s collection for Spring 2013, led by Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi, features pieces that are luxurious, modern and impeccably crafted. With the mix of geometric shapes and delicate blouses, it is clear that the designers wanted the collection to focus on bringing different elements together. The variety of multi-level skirts also highlight how duality is easily wearable and can be achieved by the everyday woman. Spring fashion is shaping up to be all about graphic and architectural pieces.
The geometric structures are enhanced by the use of color blocking, a trend that is obviously here to stay. However, the bold mix of white, black, teal, peach and yellow add a refreshing new angle. Leather, fur and ruffles in combination with this fresh color palette create elegant, sophisticated pieces with an athletic sensibility.
In an interview featured on the Fendi website, Lagerfeld said his inspiration for this collection was more abstract than in pervious shows. Instead of pulling ideas from nature, this concept arose from modern art and 3-diemensional effects. This is clearly evident the accessories. From the high block heels that feature metallic-cube embellishments to the redesigned Baguette and Peekaboo totes, Lagerfeld, as always, keeps the 87-year-old brand relevant and trend setting.
Fendi effortlessly creates futuristic pieces while still retaining the luxurious feel that we have come to expect. Any woman who prefers sportier dresses, modern silhouettes and 3-D accessories will flock to this collection.
Spring is in the air in Chapel Hill and all I can think about is spring fashion! The doldrums of winter are finally behind us and it is time to reawaken our inner fashionistas. One of my favorite trends for this season is electric color. What better way to jump-start our spring fever than to pile on the neon yellows, pinks, oranges and greens? The designers seem to be telling us that we shouldn’t be afraid to go bold with these colors. They are meant to be mixed and matched, and nothing is “too much.” An easy way to achieve this look is to find radiant accessories that can be paired with any outfit to spice it up a bit. Neiman Marcus has a great selection of luminous accessories by top designers (you may want to look elsewhere for items that are less pricey). But these items give you a good idea of accessories to look for when out shopping for your new spring wardrobe. Good luck!
I don’t know if it’s the above average temperatures in Chapel Hill or the rapidly approaching New York Fashion Week that is making me excited for spring trends, but I’ve been anticipating the upcoming season by scoping out fashion websites for must-have spring pieces.
One of my favorite trends for the upcoming spring season is asymmetrical, solid-colored skirts and dresses. I’m talking maxi skirts with an edge. This look is the perfect combination of sexy and subtle. It’s conservative, yet reveals just enough leg to keep you guessing. Whether chiffon, cotton, or some other material, let’s face it—they’re fun, flirty, and perfect for the spring. Check out Miranda Kerr in this pastel pink Eva Brazzi dress. She looks gorgeous.
You can find this modern-age Cinderella look on websites like Anthropologie.com and Shopbop.com. Here are a few:
Anthropologie Skirt $138
Preen Skirt $462 Shopbop.com
Kevork Kiledjian Skirt $750 Shopbop.com
Blue Life Skirt $108 Shopbop.com
Topshop.com dress- currently not sold in the U.S.
The beauty of these skirts and dresses is that they are statement pieces. You really don’t have to do much else to make these outfits look good. In fact, for an awesome day look I would suggest pairing your asymmetrically-cut skirt with a simple top—a basic cotton tee will do! If you’re looking to dress this look up for a night on the town, try pairing it with a chunky, bright-colored necklace and some sexy heels. I’m telling you—it’s so easy! These pieces are sure to make you stand out in the crowd.
I went down to Athens, Georgia, last weekend to visit my brother who goes to UGA, and one thing I noticed down there was a surplus of fur vests. I couldn’t help but think that they looked so chic, especially worn with a plaid top underneath and lots of accessories!
I dug a little deeper to find some of these furry items and, of course, the store with the best selection for the cheapest price was Forever 21. Here are a few of my favorites:
Forever 21, $38.90
Forever 21, $37.80
Forever 21, $27.94
This season is all about mixing and matching textures (and colors, for that matter) so I recommend pairing your fur vest with some heavy metal. Try a gold cuff or a metal studded bangle like these from Forever 21:
Forever 21, $6.80
Forever 21, $12.80
While your mixing and matching, why not try throwing a fur vest over a sequined top? Check out this pairing by Alice and Olivia:

This season is all about the element of surprise. Shock your friends by creating combinations of the most random pieces in your closet. Innovation is the key to looking trendy without having to pay the price of a new wardrobe! Happy innovating.
Confession: when I was a little girl, I was obsessed with polka dots. I had dotty dresses, shoes, shirts, umbrellas—I was probably a little too into that trend, actually. So you can imagine my excitement when I spotted polka dots all over the Fall 2011 runways. Designers such as Marc Jacobs, Lanvin, Diane von Furstenberg, Stella McCartney and Marni used this adorable print in their fall collections. Polka dots are the perfect way to add a little whimsy to a dark fall or winter wardrobe, and they make for a great standout piece—not to mention they’re just plain adorable. Here are some of my favorite spotted pieces this season:
Dot You Worry Dress, ModCloth, $54.99
This fluttery dress comes in a perfect fall color and would look great paired with solid tights. Leather ankle boots would add a little edge to this girly look, but it would also work well with black flats.
Flared chiffon blouse, H&M, $24.95
I just bought a similar blouse from H&M and I’m absolutely in love with it. It’s flowy and comfortable but still chic. You can wear it loose like in the picture above, or tuck it into pants or a pencil skirt. Pair it with a tighter bottom piece to balance out the look and give it more shape.
‘Scattered dot’ tights, kate spade new york, $32.00
Pencil skirt a little too drab? Dotty tights will fix that. Perhaps one of the subtlest ways to include the polka dot trend in your ensemble is by wearing spotted tights. It’s an easy way to add a little personality to a more serious outfit.
There is nothing more relaxing than taking a load off your feet long enough to give yourself a mani and pedi. But that’s just an additional bonus for the possible fashion statement you’ve got right at your fingertips (literally).
Whether you’re sporting sparkly polish for a night out or your go to color is a neutral pink, nail polish is a cheap and easy way to constantly make a fashion statement.
OPI’s new fall colors promise to keep you on your toes.
This autumn’s going to class colors are a step below last year’s black with softer mauves and chocolate browns.
Suzi Loves Cow Boys
Warm & Fozzie
With the leaves all changing colors, you might be looking for something a little more colorful. Find an outlet with some warm spice hues.
The “IT” Color
Melon of Troy
But if you’re really looking to stand out, the best touch would have to be by adding a little shimmer to your nails. OPI is even switching things up with a line from Nicki Minaj.
Spark De Triomphe
If you aren’t savvy on sparkles you can always change your nails up a little bit by having four nails on your hand one color and then have having an accent color on the remaining finger. Our cover model even sported the switch up.
So don’t pansy out and turn to your all time favorite bubble gum pink. Experiment with different shades, after all change is only a swipe of nail polish away.

With cold weather swiftly approaching (this past Halloween weekend was not the time for skimpy costumes), we are all looking for ways to battle the chill while staying on trend. Here, I give you the lace-up ankle boot. Whether high-heeled, leather, suede, military-inspired or shearling-lined, this shoe is a must have this season. With this variety of styles, you can’t go wrong. I cannot get enough of this fall trend.
From Chanel to Proenza Schouler, lace-up ankle boots dominated the fall collections at New York Fashion Week. They are chic with an edge, a wearable take on hiking boots. They work perfectly with fall’s menswear styles and can be dressed up or down.
We can learn a lot from these lovely ladies. Rihanna takes a fall basic, a chunky sweater, and transforms it into an outfit perfect for a night out with friends by adding a fitted black skirt, opaque tights and her tough ankle boots. Rachel keeps things casual, yet put together by pairing her boots with boyfriend jeans and a polished blazer–a perfect outfit for class. Leighton wears her stiletto ankle boots with a statement dress to add a bit of edge. Maybe you’ll work ankle boots at your next cocktail.
So, go ahead. Pair these booties with a boho dress and patterned tights, chunky socks and wool shorts, or your favorite pair of skinny jeans and a slouchy sweater for a cozy, chic fall look.
Here are some of my favorites. Enjoy!

If there is one trend I’m most excited about this fall, it’s colored pants. They are the perfect accent to spice up your winter wardrobe. I love the red DKNY skinny jeans from the Fall 2011 RTW collection. I recently bought a pair of red skinny jeans for myself, and I won’t lie, I’ve been a little hesitant to wear them. But after seeing them in the DKNY show paired with a black sweater vest and blazer, I’m confident that red pants are an essential item for this season.
Aquascutum also debuted a fiery orange pant in their Fall 2011 RTW collection. Paired with a forest green military jacket, this outfit is tough, chic, and guaranteed to garner you a few looks. We all know that as much as we love our go-to classic blue jeans, wearing them day after day can put you in a fashion funk. Who says pops of color from spring can’t transition into fall?
I did some investigative research of my own on Shopbop (of course) just to make sure this wasn’t just one trend meant for the runway but not real life, and sure enough, colored pants are everywhere! I found a pair of red jeans from Mother for $185, plum-colored Slwy jeans for $165 and yellow Rag & Bone jeans for $176.
Dress them up with some peep toe heels or wear them to class with a pair of chunky military boots. Either way, these pants are a hot item for this season.
Do you wake up some days and wish you could just go to class in your pajamas? Well now you can! The newest spring 2011 fashion trend is pajama inspired dressing consisting of comfy fabrics like silk and chiffon. The best part about this new trend is that you can look sleek and pulled-together while actually being comfortable. The pajama-inspired trend has been seen on Michael Kors, Vena Cava, and Alexander Wang’s spring runway shows. Silk’s glossy texture and chiffon’s sheerness is what makes these fabrics look elegant and chic. These flowing fabrics are a great alternative to jeans and sweatpants because they are just as comfortable but look more stylish. They are also very versatile and have a relaxed feel while still looking dressy. Pajama inspired dressing can be worn anytime of the day. You can pair a chiffon top with sandals and some shorts to go to class in the morning or if you’re going out for a night on the town, you can wear a silk dress with heels and a blazer. Either way you’re bound to look sophisticated in this fashionable new trend!!
