Lovely Leather

There is no denying that leather is a force to be reckoned with this season. Paring a leather item with any outfit is an easy way to give your look an edgier touch. While genuine leather is on the pricey side, there are many synthetic leather options that provide you with all the bang for fewer bucks. This trend has also been a huge hit among celebrities. A-list stars such as Beyonce´, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez and Kristen Stewart have all been seen rocking the trend. While you may be thinking that wearing tight leather pants or a tiny leather dress is a little too bold for you, there are a multitude of ways to tweak the trend to fit your personal style. Not a fan of black? No worries, there are plenty leather pieces available in this season’s hottest colors. All in all, leather is extremely versatile and should be a staple in every woman’s closet.

Leather Skirt

While leather skirts are typically seen as nighttime attire, this season feminine pleated option allows you to wear the trend day or night.  If you are looking for a sexier option, pair a leather pencil skirt with a peplum top and you’ve got the perfect mix of sexy and classy.

Leather Dress

When it comes to leather dresses there are a wide variety of options available. For the bolder fashionista, who is not afraid to show off her curves, a bodycon leather dress will be perfect. Those who are more modest may prefer a dress with leather accents.

Leather Pants

Remember liquid leggings? Well, they have been replaced with far more stylish, and breathable, leather pants. These pants will give any outfit a chic and edgy twist.

Leather Jacket

The leather jacket is a classic piece that can easily transform and pull together any look. A fun way to wear this season’s biker jacket is to pair it with ultra feminine dresses and skirts to add contrast to your outfit

Diane von Furstenberg — Spring 2013

Diane von Furstenberg’s spring collection is not for those who shy away from color. The array of bold tropical colors and billowing silhouettes paint a picture of vacationing in the world’s most exotic locations – surely a testament to von Furstenberg’s extensive travel repertoire. Creative director, Yvan Mispelaere, and von Furstenberg’s inspiration for the collection titled, “Palazzo,” was von Furstenberg’s jetsetter lifestyle.

With this collection, DVF brought the local fashions of Mumbai and New Delhi to the American fashion scene. The abundance of looks featuring long tunics and dresses paired with slim fitting trousers outnumber von Furstenberg’s signature piece, the wrap dress. Always known for her body-friendly pieces, the looks are pulled together with waist cinching metallic belts that create an hourglass figure.

Keeping up with today’s ever-changing technological environment, the designer partnered with Google to debut their new Glass technology. The glasses that were worn by some of the models, and von Furstenberg herself, recorded behind-the-scenes footage that is featured in a short film about the show.

The combination of plunging necklines, bright color blocking and bold accessories exudes confidence, and is made for the self-assured, modern woman.  DVF effortlessly updates statement retro pieces and delivers a fantastic collection.

Diane von Furstenberg – New York Fashion Week Fall 2012

Diane von Furstenberg’s Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear collection embodies the classic elegance of the fall. The collection features rich fall colors, lady-like silhouettes, and beautiful combinations of textures. She uses deep neutral colors such as maroon, red and black, in unison with varying pops of pink, bright yellows and greens. The silhouettes are elegant and simple, but also whimsical and playful. DVF adds edge to classic pieces by pairing sequins with fur and patent leather. In my opinion, this collection embodies the persona of a New York woman. It is very wearable, and the textures seem suitable for fall temperatures, yet there are pieces that are fun, quirky, and meant to give any woman a certain pop. DVF is a consistently beautiful designer, and this collection is no exception.

Shown at the Plaza Hotel, the collection was definitely a beautiful sight. Thakoon stayed true to his classic designs such as a camel coat with a hot pink collar and a fuschia cocktail dress with a deep v-neck. The must-have item out of this collection is Thakoon’s mongolian fur sweaters that look so cozy and will definitely keep you warm during those cold winter months. Model Profile: Karlie Kloss

After watching the countless amount of shows from  the Spring 2012 season, I have seen so many new faces and talent on the runways. There was one face that I truly remembered and has been taking notice throughout the fashion industry with her signature walk and beautiful face; Karlie Kloss.

At just 19 years old, Kloss has been considered one of the greats. Karlie at first had dreams of becoming a ballerina; but at just 13 years old walking in a fashion show in her hometown of St. Louis, Missouri Karlie was then discovered by a modeling agent. From then on, she proceeded to take modeling seriously and moved to New York to start her career. In her first runway season being signed to NEXT Model Management, Karlie Kloss walked a number of 64 shows. Kloss was already born to be a star.

Kloss has been shot in advertisements for Yves Saint Laurent, Gap, Oscar de la Renta, Dolce & Gabbana, and more. She has also been featured in editorials for Vogue, W, Elle and Allure. I can already see her being more successful things in the future. The question on everyone’s mind: what is Ms. Kloss going to do next? I’m afraid we’ll have to wait and see!

You can see her signature strut opening for the John Galliano Spring 2012 show in the video below.

First Look: Matthew Williamson for Macy’s

Macy’s was recently on the radar of fashionistas everywhere with the debut of Madonna and her daughter Lourdes’ clothing line Material Girl. Today, Macy’s unveiled a new collaboration, but with a renowned clothing designer rather than a celebrity. Matthew Williamson is a London-based high-fashion designer who’s had his own shows at London Fashion Week since the summer of 2006. His designs continue to gain popularity in the United States, sported by celebrities like Katy Perry, Leighton Meester, Blake Lively, and Oh Land.

Williamson’s Impulse line at Macy’s is available in the United States, so you can get the London style your favorite singers and actresses are wearing at an affordable price. Almost all of the items in the collection are under $100 (the prices range from $59 to $299), so in this case, it’s okay to splurge! The choices range from flirty, floral dresses to oversized sweaters to chic leather jackets, so there’s definitely something for girls of every style.

Our favorite item? The Grecian Sleeveless One-Shoulder Jeweled Dress, a lavender cocktail dress that can be dressed up or dressed down. Unfortunately it’s one of the pricier items at $119, but that’s still a fraction of what you would pay for a high-fashion dress, even on Gilt Groupe. We also love the Long-Sleeve Leather Motorcycle Jacket, which is the collection’s most expensive item, banking in at $299. But how many orange, genuine-leather jackets does one come across? It’s an investment, really. And the asymmetrical zipper gives it the perfect finishing touch.
