Seeing Spots: The Fall Print We’re Dotty About

Confession: when I was a little girl, I was obsessed with polka dots.  I had dotty dresses, shoes, shirts, umbrellas—I was probably a little too into that trend, actually.  So you can imagine my excitement when I spotted polka dots all over the Fall 2011 runways.  Designers such as Marc Jacobs, Lanvin, Diane von Furstenberg, Stella McCartney and Marni used this adorable print in their fall collections.  Polka dots are the perfect way to add a little whimsy to a dark fall or winter wardrobe, and they make for a great standout piece—not to mention they’re just plain adorable.  Here are some of my favorite spotted pieces this season:

Dot You Worry Dress, ModCloth, $54.99

This fluttery dress comes in a perfect fall color and would look great paired with solid tights.  Leather ankle boots would add a little edge to this girly look, but it would also work well with black flats.

Flared chiffon blouse, H&M, $24.95

I just bought a similar blouse from H&M and I’m absolutely in love with it.  It’s flowy and comfortable but still chic.  You can wear it loose like in the picture above, or tuck it into pants or a pencil skirt.  Pair it with a tighter bottom piece to balance out the look and give it more shape.

‘Scattered dot’ tights, kate spade new york, $32.00

Pencil skirt a little too drab?  Dotty tights will fix that.  Perhaps one of the subtlest ways to include the polka dot trend in your ensemble is by wearing spotted tights.  It’s an easy way to add a little personality to a more serious outfit.

Marc Jacobs Tackles Skin Cancer The Only Way He Knows How

Marc-By-Marc-Jacobs-'Know-The-Skin-You're-In'-T-Shirts01

Marc Jacobs is becoming more than a designer. The Marc by Marc Jacobs and Jacobs by Marc Jacobs diffusion lines have made the icon’s clothes more accessible and have turned a former Perry Ellis employee into a gossip blog sensation. Using his celebrity, and celebrity friends, Marc Jacobs brings us the “Protect The Skin You’re In” collection of t-shirts. The collection features celebrities such as Marc Jacobs, Erin Wasson, Heidi Klum, and Victoria Beckham among others.

The shirts can be purchased only at Marc by Marc Jacobs stores with the surprisingly low cost of $35. All proceeds will go to the NYU Cancer Institute for skin cancer research.

Resort 2010 Collections

Resort 2010 Dear Kaleidoscope readers: Resort 2010 collections are in, and in what way!

Going through the different collections gives me butterflies: from Burberry’s edgy cool to DVF’s uber-femininity, there’s something for every taste.

What I would do to own that red Marc Jacobs dress! The fullness of the skirt, the pop of the sequins, it’s all you could want and more.  Alexander Wang shows his forte with draped body-con dresses in metal colors. Miu Miu channels girliness with a geometric cut, who thought those two could work so well together?  Burberry oozes coolness with this look, the loose coat, ruched sleeves and muted colors make up for an incredibly strong statement look.  DVF… every girl’s dream line. Colorful dresses that hug the body. They even make the headpieces look cool (ok, maybe not).  And Thakoon, the most wearable resort collection shows us the perfect summer look (take note!) feminine airy blouses with roomy jean shorts and killer heels. Deadly combo!
