Love them or hate them, dance marathon recruiters took over campus this week in their bright, wacky ensembles. While their fashion was purposely extreme to attract your eye,  there is one style do that you can take from their purpose don’ts: a little brightness can go a long way.

Incorporate a colored accessory to an otherwise neutral-colored outfit (blacks, whites, tans), and you’ll pop with a coordinated ensemble that like our friendly recruiters’, catches quite a few eyes too.

Quick Picks:

1) Corked Color Necklace
$43.99, Modcloth

2) Crayon Ring
$12, Fred Flare

3) The Sash
$8, American Apparel

The signature IT necklace

To add flavor to that simple t-shirt, jeans and boots, add a chunky statement necklace to make your outfit pop.  These bold necklaces transform boring outfits and immediately catch peoples’ eye.  According to ShopBop.com, these necklaces are known as Bib Necklaces.  Shaped similarly to a bib (but of course much cuter and smaller), these necklaces are an accessory must have!  For additional flare, the sparkly statement necklaces look amazing, especially with that perfect LBD!   In addition, colorful floral necklaces are a must for this spring! For a more mature look, try a statement necklace that layers.  I have found, either a chunky statement necklace or layered necklaces make any outfit that much better!

“Diamonds” are a girl’s best friend

JEWELRYOne of the things I’ve learned from my mom is that I should never, ever, leave my house without earrings.  Other than that, I’ve never been the type to wear much jewelry. Sometimes I sling on a necklace or a pair of bangles, but most days, I blindly gather my silver studs from my nightstand, put them on, and call it a day.

But recently, I’ve been abnormally attracted to big, chunky, shiny, statement-making jewelry.

It’s no secret that bold pieces of jewelry have been making the fashion rounds lately: bib necklaces, sparkly earrings, chunky rings, etc.  It’s all about letting the jewels do the talking, and pairing it with a simple tee and basic pieces seems like a match made in heaven.

I call it the “I just rolled out of bed and abused granny’s jewelry box” look.  And I love it!

But, I have a limited budget, so when it comes to jewelry, I look for expensive-looking cheap pieces that can complete my look.  And I found the perfect place: Forever XXI.  There are hundreds of pieces to choose from!  Every style, every color: all at very low prices. Almost all the pieces on the banner above are less than $10.  So, if you’re looking for a cheap way to update your look, go to Forever XXI, and enjoy! (I already have three necklaces coming my way).

fashion HERstory

Do you have a piece of clothing, an accessory, or body adornment that you just have to wear everyday? Have you ever found that staple item for your wardrobe that just seems to go well with everything? I know i can’t live without my white gold diamond heart studs–and if it counts, I have to have a pedicure.

In cultures around the world , I’ve noticed that women have embodied the customs of their culture, and past rituals have become today’s fashion statements.

I know in places like India the Bindi was once worn on the forehead as a “mystic third eye,” or a social symbol such as a wedding band. But today, not just married women have taken up this beautiful “accessory,” and the simple red dots have been replaced with colorful gems and jewels.

I would totally rock one of these for fun.

In Europe and America lockets were given during the Victorian Era as condolences to those who had lost a loved one. Today, giving a living love one a token of your appreciation in the form of a locket or charm is so romantic.

First-year Bella Cochrane sports two beautiful charms on her necklaces that, after wearing them for so long, have become a part of her. I would guess that whoever gave them to her is someone very special 🙂

So whether your everyday fashion consists of beautiful gems placed on your skin, or a simple necklace or locket, or even a black- tee (Simon Cowell), those pieces may define who you are, or what you stand for, so go ahead, rock ’em!

shopbop 4 Life

I’m OBSESSED. I can’t help it; I look through shopbop everyday, in every class, at all times. My name is Elizabeth Graper and I stalk shopbop. I believe that clothes are an expression of who you are, however, in my opinion you can never have too many personalities. I love to dress up but I also like to be comfortable and casual. Whether the style is girly, rock n’roll, flower power, or grunge, I love clothes.
