classic kicks covered in iconic prints

Everyone has a pair of Converses floating around in the back of their closet. With spring just within our reach, it’s the perfect time to check out the new collaboration between Converse and iconic Finnish brand, Marimekko. You are probably familiar with Marimekko’s bright, funky fabrics, which come in the form of everything from slouchy, shoulder purses to tablecloths to tunics. The Unikko fabric from the 1960s is the brand’s most recognized.

The kicks come in four different fabrics, with an assortment of fun colors. The fabric is from original patterns from the 1960s. They’re available in the All Star in hi-top or lo-top form, as well as in the Jack Purcell Helen style. Prices range from $75 to $85 a pair. My favorite is the Jack Purcells in the white and red print.

Check out this video, which features a designer from Marimekko’s thoughts and some awesome footage of Helsinki, Finland, where Marimekko is based. Get your pair of these scrumptious, feminine shoes and welcome spring with open arms.

Spring Buyers’ Guide

As we cling to our steaming coffee while we trudge through the snow and ice, it is hard NOT to drift into thoughts about Spring and leave the biting February cold behind. Luckily for us, the web offers an escape with plenty of exciting new looks for Spring 2010. Style.com has just released their Spring Buyers’ Guide with their favorite picks for the upcoming season. The clothes and accessories they feature come from boutiques and department stores alike ranging from coast to coast. Although this winter weather can sometimes be a bit of a downer, this collection of trends is sure to cheer you right up. I know one thing is for sure- Spring 2010 will not be bland. This upcoming season is going to be all about brights and patterns. Go crazy this spring mixing patterns and sporting vivid colors- it appears that nothing is really “too much.” I am especially excited about the tie-dye that seems to be making an appearance. One of my favorite pieces in Syle.com’s Spring Guide is a Tory Burch tie-dye skirt (slide 10). Pair it with a solid tank or tee, gladiator sandals and a light scarf and you have the perfect outfit for a luncheon with friends or a day of shopping. Bold jewelry is also a must for spring and the DVF bangles (slide 53) are a personal favorite. Gladiator sandals, light-weight scarves, bold zippers and one-shoulder dresses and tops will continue to be prevalent this season so feel free combine what you already own with your new purchases. Although it feels like forever until the snow will melt and we will be able to rock these trends, they are definitely worth the wait. In the meantime, warm up by checking out Style.com’s spring selections.

No Need for the Weed Killer on this Blossoming Trend

French playwright Maurice Maeterlinck once stated, “Can we conceive what humanity would be if it did not know the flowers?”   Imagine, a world devoid of flowers.  Not only the loss of those magnificent petals full of life and color, but also the total extinction of floral fabrics.  This spring’s blossoming trend would not be possible without the works of Mother Nature.  Floral patterns are sprouting up this season all over the runways from such collections as Dolce and Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, and Anna Sui.

From orchids to daisies, these patterns range from bold to delicate.  An all-over floral dress can be paired with an oversized neutral sweater to balance the busy pattern.  For those more adventurous fashionistas, this spring’s neon trend can be found embedded in these flowery prints.  A brilliantly colored high wasted floral skirt can be worn with a white tank for a cute warm weather look.  And for those looking for just a pop of color, floral prints are showing up even on this season’s revival of canvas sneakers.  These shoes worn with a favorite pair of skinny jeans and oversized tee-shirt are a comfy way to show some of one’s fun loving personality.  The world idolizes flowers as a symbol of friendship and love.  And honestly, who can’t help but smile when in the presence of someone in a flouncy floral sundress?  When clothes make you happy, you know you’ve got the perfect outfit.
